This will include a discussion of incentives with delinkage, with a particular focus on case rewards, sometime referred to as prizes. The discussion will address three broad categories of innovation inducement prizes, and the proposed implementation of prizes, both proposed and actual, in the United States, the European Union (including the UK), and in other countries. The three broad categories for innovation inducement prizes are:
- Interim results prizes, including milestone and best of prizes.
- End product prizes
- Open source dividend prizes
Cash rewards can and are implemented either as complements or substitutes to other incentives, including the grant of monopolies, and they can be implemented either voluntary or non-voluntary alternatives to the monopolies.
